我今天用gmail写一个邮件，写完了按下发送键,弹出一个这样的对话框：

Did you mean to attach files?

You wrote "is attached" in your message, but there are no files attached. Send anyway?

简直太周到了

尽管我确实没有附件要发的。

you might also want to try their 'priority mail' feature, which does more sophisticated classification to prioritize your incoming emails.

actually, IMHO, google is slipping away from the simplicity and speed in its early time. Many of the recent features (instant preview, instant search, etc.) not only takes up much resources, but are absolutely *ANNOYING*

Instant Search我感觉还不错。
Priority mail一直都不好用。主要原因可能是Gmail不是我的主力邮箱，而它可能用到的算法我基本上能猜到，他一旦出错我就想到原因，所以经常b4之。
至于尝试把自然语言理解放到界面，我个人觉得是一种不错的尝试，可能他只是用到关键字匹配，
但能引起人们的注意和启发其他社区的开发，也是不错的。

perform a random search, then on the right hand side of the search box, there should be 'instance is on', click it to assess the menu and turn it off. However, my understanding is that this preference is stored in the local cache (as a cookie), so it might not persist if you change a machine or clean the cookies.

Never used it because of privacy concerns.

All it does it to train a classifier based on your interaction patterns. However, I guess Google must be going a step further. They probably can learn some sort of 'signal' (either for you or for a group of people), and then can use these knowledge for better search result ranking or displaying sponsored ads.

Shallow NLP is okay and works reasonably well for simple tasks. However, don't expect it to work across the board. There are so many nasty cases and exceptions in living every language ...

Instant Search应该是基于服务器的搜索提示。

可能是因为我现在做中文搜索不多，所以不清楚Instant Search在中文搜索方面的表现。
但在英文搜索方面，这个instance search至少可以减少我70%以上的输入时间，
以及可以解决20%-40%左右的搜索主题思考问题。

刚用gmail试发了几个邮件，在邮件正文和主题里都加上 is attached 字样，似乎没有提示

I found I am typing faster than what instant search can respond, and when i hit enter after the query, it might end up with the wrong query. In other words, instant search gets into my way.

For SEs, such instant search is beneficial as it lowers the workloads on the server side.

instant search的主要作用不是用来提供用户，而是即时出现搜索结果，对吧？
这样，用户在输入的时候，可以快速地看到是不是输入了最准确的关键字。
而对于服务器来说，似乎只会加重负担，而不是减轻

有限屏幕输入与一般键盘输入从人机设计的角度应该不同吧？
另外，js未必有这样的支持。

其实Thunderbird都有这个功能，不算是Gmail独有的。
