POLICE have charged a 29-year-old Chinese national living in Karratha over the death of a 61-year-old woman in a traffic crash on Sunday.
Police allege that about 11am, the man was driving a Toyota Hilux north along North West Coastal Highway, about 15km south of Karratha, and a Nissan Patrol, being driven by a 65-year-old man and with the woman and two teenage girls as passengers, was travelling in the opposite direction.
As both vehicles approached a bend, police allege the man’s Toyota Hilux crossed to the incorrect side of the road and collided head-on with the Nissan.
The 61-year-old Karratha woman died at the scene, while both drivers and the teenage passengers received injuries and were conveyed to Nickol Bay Hospital. A 13-year-old girl was then flown to Royal Perth Hospital with serious head and body injuries.
The 29-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and being an unauthorised driver (Learner driver not with instructor present).
He will appear before the Karratha Magistrates Court on May 12
