Aussie Aussie Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi! The South Bank Parklands are the place to be for Brisbane's Australia Day celebrations, with the 2009 Australia Day festival kicking off with more fun events and activities than you can poke a pair of tongs at. There will be fireworks, a good old-fashioned Aussie barbecue, a thong-throwing competition, fun activities such as circus performers for the kiddies, and some top-notch live music. It's all free and sure to keep the whole family entertained and enjoying the festive spirit while we all celebrate what it means to be an Australian.
Starting at 11am on the Cultural Forecourt of the Parklands is the Australia Day flag-raising ceremony. The flags of Australia, Queensland and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will all be raised while the 100-man military honour guard of the Australian Defence Force and Brisbane's Royal Australian Artillery Band strut their stuff.
Following the fantastic, free and family-friendly fun at South Bank, revellers can head over to Suncorp Piazza for the special Australia Day concert and exciting fireworks display. Performers include the beautiful and talented Clare Bowditch, Gentle Ben and His Sensitive Side and The Gin Club. |
