First of all, it depends on how much you drive, if you are doing more than 20k a year,it should pay for itself within 2 years time.
Ford Falcon is good car for LPG, the running cost includes the following:
petrol /LPG price: it drinks a lot but due to the LPG price, you pay about the same amount as the small crappy korean cars
price: 40k for a new one, about 45% for a 1~2 years old one with with factory warranty and under 40k km on the clock. again around the same price as the cheapest korean new car
maintenance: ford and holden are the cheapest to fix, ford's parts are even cheaper. but those aussie cars may break a bit more than japanese cars such as toyota and mazda.. sometimes they are pretty good though, depends on your luck.
and if you are not an expert, go for the E-gas (factory dedicated LPG), fewer problems. If you are expert, buy a petrol one and some after market SVGI conversion provides better power and efficiency, and could be cheaper then factory LPG after government's 2000 rebate on LPG conversion.
about convenience, LPG station is widely spreaded in OZ, unless you need to across the desert in the centre of australia. but the money you save from petrol could allow you to rent a 4wd to do that job
