This facility certainly looks nice online, but the reality is not as good as the photos. For the price, I certainly expected a lot better facilities. Shelly Beach Cabins is part of Sun Valley Tourist Park.
The cabins are all very close together (the caravan park is worse!). The car parking spaces are tiny, and most are not very close to the cabins. Buses cannot enter the park, the roads are too narrow and the entrance too low. They have certainly tried to pack in as many sites as possible.
The 6 berth cabins are not as big as they look. The 4 berth cabins are a reasonable size. However, all cabins are showing signs of wear, rusty stove, ancient heaters, poor TV reception. Only 2 of the 4 BBQs are functional, which was an issue because the park was full when we were there.
The four berth cabins share a wall with one other cabin. We were lucky enough to have some very energetic children in the cabin next to us - they kept us up all night jumping around, even when their parents yelled at them.
My son had to share my bed after the first night, ants invaded the top bunk he slept in the first night and the bottom one (which had not been used) as well. The ants were also all over the kitchen area. That's probably why the lighting is so poor - so you can't see how shabby the cabin is and all the creepy crawlies. The lighting in the main bedroom was appalling, with the overhead light & two bedside lamps on, there was just enough light to read at night.
Don't expect great customer service or a cheerful welcome either. The people who run the park are almost rude. And you will find signs every where warning you that if you break any of their very strict rules you will be evicted.
The park is not as close to the beach as they would have you believe. There is a road between the park and the beach and a decent hike down to the beach.
The only positive was that they have security guards on Friday & Saturday nights and every night during school holidays. However, on our 3rd night we were still subjected to doof doof music and fireworks at 11pm.
I certainly will not be staying here again, or recommended it to anyone. |
