7分写作练习——无偿分享,拍砖勿入。

Essay One ----
A public event will be held in your community, and you think your friend will be interested in it. Write a letter to your friend. In your letter, you should say:
1). introduce the event;
2). why you think your friend will be interested in it;
3). when and where to meet each other when attending this event.

Dear Joan,

I’m writing to invite you to the impending fashion show due on Saturday, Oct. 30, 8pm to 9pm.

The fashion show is one of the events scheduled for a series of activities aimed at providing a variety of entertainment to the local residents in my area. It is jointly held by the design institute and local resident committee. In fact, the clothes on show will be the finished products of our students’ design and will be marked and commented by judges. I know you have always been interested in fashion and catwalk, and we have not seen each other yet since you got back from France. So why not join me in the show and have some fun together?

I will be acting the role of one of the judges. But I’ll be sure to arrange a seat for you close to mine, and after the show we can have a drink and a good chat, as in old days. I will be with all my ears to your romantic and exotic experiences in France. Of course, you are welcome to bring friends along. That case, we can chat at some other time.

So please RSVP by next Wednesday and let me know your plan, so that I can arrange courier of tickets to your place beforehand.

Cheers for now,
Laura

Essay Two ----
Fast food is becoming one part of people’ s daily life everywhere, and this has had negative effects on our lifestyles and diet. Do you agree with this statement?

That fast food has become a fixed recipe in our daily life is so commonplace that people begin to take it for granted. Albeit convenient and time-saving, fast food seems to me more of a compromise choice in a reconciliation.

Admittedly, the popularity of fast food comes from its accessibility, cost effectiveness and standard services. KFC once conducted a survey to find out the mainstay of its customers. Results led to three groups ---- students, singles and workaholics. Indeed, in this fast tempo world, those who are not taken care of but can not afford time taking care of themselves may find fast food a blessing from God. Fast food keeps them from starving and survives them through the bumpy years of hard-working while being single.

However, to those who have a voluntary choice, fast food is not appealing in the least. First of all, people live for fun. We need something palatable, delicate and innovative rather than just grabbing a bite for each. The cliché recipes and menus of fast food restaurants, namely hamburger, chips and fried chicken for western ones or noodle and rice for Chinese ones, seem like the oil tanks labeled 93# or 97# in the gas station. People take fast food without appreciating it or enjoying it. Pointing fingers at the set meals, taking the plate to a corner and, in most cases, looking out of the window while eating alone, don’t these sound all too pathetic? More importantly, as the recipes are dull, the nutrition taken in by fast food consumers is limited. Therefore, the more addicted to fast food, the more likely one gets vulnerable to obesity and diseases. Just think of the cases which brought the fast food giants to court in the patches where they operate and how much compensation was asked to be paid for the damage made to loyal consumers.

By way of conclusion, in my opinion, fast food is neither poison nor gourmet. It’s something merely existing in the modern society to help those helpless. Take it to fill up the stomach, all well and good. But be vigilant not to get addicted, as it can not provide the love and care and fun for life.

7分写作练习——再贴

Essay One ----
You are going to move out of the current living place. Write a letter about your accommodation to your English-speaking colleague who will be coming next month
1) why you are going to move out;
2) describe the accommodation;
3) why it's suitable for your colleague

Dear Stephanie,

At long last it has been finalized that you will be transferred to our Beijing office next month. I wish to extend my warmest welcome to you. I’m sure you will enjoy your stay and work in this city.

As I mentioned to you during my last visit to the Shanghai office, I’ve decided to move back to my mothers’ place. I hope my accompany can help comfort her emotional loss.
However, I hate to leave the apartment I’m currently renting, as I’ve grown to like this patch of mine. Although it’s not big with only one bedroom, it’s pretty new, pleasantly decorated, fully functional and very comfortable. The windows and platforms provide a spectacular view of the city and the river. Sight-seeing at night in the bedroom is breathtaking. And what I enjoy most is watching sunset from the sitting room. Above all this, it’s only 2 minutes’ walk from the subway station and four stops from the World Trade Tower, where our office is.

As I guess you’ll be wishing to find a place to settle down, I suggest you come and see my place. In case you like it and wish to take it, I can help contact the property owner so that you can sign a contract with him. I’ll stay out of this. But I wish I could move back when you leave in two years time. Who knows? Maybe I will be able to buy one for myself at that time. But anyway, it’s a lovely place to live in.

Let me know if you are interested. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.

Yours,
Laura

Essay Two ----
People say that a child's success is dependent on the way parents bring them up. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

What creates success for a person has long been a confusing topic. Talents, efforts, perseverance and opportunities are factors that have normally been taken into consideration. However, what I wish to discuss today is how much relevant one’s success is to the way he/she has been brought up. In my opinion, the two elements are relevant, but it’s hard to say whether the proportion is direct or inverse.

Children are affected by their parents in two ways --- how they behave as adults and how they treat their children. Either moral or evil, parents tend to influence their descendents. Typically, children from intellectual families are likely to be polite and educated; and children embedded in family violence tend to be lack of self-control.

However, despite of the “like father, like son” theory, some children are clever enough to find a way out of unfavorable family conditions for prospects for success. Strangely enough, from a bad thing, some people learn to do it, while some others learn not to do it. That’s why we have policemen and criminals. Even for those who do not have parents, success is possible. A telling example would be the prototype for the movie depicting an orphan millionaire arising from the Indian ghetto.

In summary, I’m convinced that although parenting is important for the development and potential success of a child, equally essential for the child is to judge what to learn and what not to learn. What kind of person one wants to be and what dream one has, these are the questions to be asked, rather than what one’s parents are like and what they can do to help.

Essay One ----
Your friend who is going to further her study abroad is hesitant to choose the majors between business management and music. Write a letter to offer some suggestions. In your letter,
1). explain how you feel when you receive her letter
2). explain the benefits of both subjects
3). give your suggestion

Dear Joan,

Sorry for the late reply. I was on a vacation to Bintan last week. Anyway, thanks for your trust in asking me concerning this. If, in any way, my words can be of any help, that would be more than a relief to me.

Business management or music, it’s a question. You know I graduated from INSEAD, so business management sounds less mysterious than music to me. But in your case, things may be a little complicated.

That your parents stay out of this decision-making really surprises me, as you are the only child they have and they definitely need someone to help them run the business in the future. On a second thought, they may love you too much to push you too far too fast. At the very least, whatever you choose to learn, you may still find another half who understands business operation and can pick up the baton of the family business.

So, taking all those into consideration, I guess I have come to a conclusion. But you may have not. In that case, stop being wearying of this and just follow your instinct. After all, you are still young and have no problem affording both majors. It’s just a matter of time, money and order. No big deal, isn’t it?

I hope you can enjoy whatever you choose in the coming years. Let’s keep in touch. I wish to show you my Bintan pictures soon.

Cheers for now,
Laura

Essay Two ----
Nowadays, increasing countries are confronted with the disappearance of cooking skills. What is the situation in your country? Do you agree that the young children should be taught home cooking in school?

Without even noticing it, people across the globe begin to lose the traditional cooking skills that that parents and parents of parents are proud of, and choose to dine outside more and more often, least among Chinese youngsters.

Digging into the root of this phenomenon, we see a couple of reasons emerge as answers. Needless to say, the one-child policy in place for a while accounts for no less than 50 percent. With only one child, either boy or girl, parents naturally take good care of him/her, leaving the child little room to help or learn in terms of doing house chores, cooking included. Take a boarder view, the society currently goes more and ore specialized in labor training and work distribution. Jack-of-all-trades is rarely seen today. Typically, grandfathers who can make furniture, cook, grow plants and even build houses are more versatile than fathers, and fathers more talented than husbands, albeit vice versa for earnings.

As to whether schools should offer cooking lesions to kids and young children, I guess it is a good idea, as long as cooking becomes a selective course rather than a compulsory one. In that case, those who are interested will go for it, while those who are not will be saved from the trouble of worrying about the scores.

By way of conclusion, I totally agree that, cooking, as an indispensible part of culture, should be deliberately preserved. The cause must be carried on. However, I am also convinced that people should have their own choice as to learn or not to learn cooking skills. Those into it may devote a lifetime and turn out to be the chief chef in a 3 star Michelin restaurant; whereas those who hate to cook, even if they can, may choose to dine out over cooking on their own. After all, both ways serve well as incentives to promote economic development.
